Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday reviewed the VVIPs and VIPs security within and outside Punjab, as per the Supreme Court instructions.
According to official information more than 4,500 cops were pulled out from security duty. More than 700 private individuals presently have 2,000 to 2,500 cops ,on their security duty ,in the list of protectees whose security cover is to be pruned.

The state police has also identified a large number of protectees, who continue to enjoy security cover over and above the norms. Also, threat perception of each individual was being reviewed for providing security coverage.

The case would come up before March 14 in Supreme Court.

The state police have also formulated a new policy under which only protectees in 'Z' plus category or some exceptional cases facing high threat perception, would be provided commandos in security cover.

Beside commandos, cops from the Indian Reserve Battalion and the Punjab Armed Police would be requisitioned for security duty.
