The incident took place at 3pm, when the victim, Sushil Maurya, was headed to college in a jam-packed BEST bus. While trying to alight at his stop, Maurya stepped on Dinesh Soni, the accused.
A fight broke out between in the bus itself, the police said.
“Both got down at the Teli Gulli bus stop in Andheri, where the bus terminates. The argument between the two got ugly,” said an officer from the Andheri police station.
They started pushing each other, when Soni, a mechanic by profession, fished out a knife and stabbed Maurya. Other commuters alerted the police.
“The officers reached the spot and arrested Soni,” said P Gosavi, senior inspector Andheri police station.
The police are now investigating why Soni, a Vakola resident, was carrying a knife in his bag. Soni was produced before a local court that remanded him in police custody for four days.
