Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has expressed shock over the sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl on a MCD school campus in north Delhi's Mangolpuri.

The chief minister has directed the three civic bodies to take up measures to ramp up security in schools run by them.

Education minister Kiran Walia took up the matter with the Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

"The chief secretary has been directed to contact the authorities concerned in the north corporation. Prima facie it appears that the lack of security and supervision by the corporation might be the cause of the incident," said a senior Delhi government official. 

"The education minister has asked the police to take strict action under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and provide counselling to the child," added the official.
