The union ministry of home affairs has lauded the efforts of Neeraj Sharma, adviser, Punjab Police, in extending his services in conceptualisation and successful implementation of the National Data Base of Arms Licences (NDAL).
M Gopal Reddy, joint secretary, union ministry of home affairs, in a letter of commendation sent to Sharma, wrote that it was due to Sharma's professional acumen that the first phase of the NDAL had been made operational by the ministry in a short span of less than six months.

Meanwhile, Sharma said the NDAL had connected all the 643 licensing authorities in India across 35 states and union territories. "The application has been posted in the central server at the National Informatics Cenre (NIC) headquarters at New Delhi for generating a unique identification number for every arms licence holder," said Sharma.

"As per the amendments brought in the Arms Rules, 1962, no arms licence would remain valid after October 1, 2015 if it does not have the system-generated UIN. It is mandatory for the licensing authorities to upload their complete data in the central server," he said.

Sharma said that in the second phase, all other services would be provided online in the central server. He said that he was working on the architecture to be implemented by the NIC.
