“Acquisition of fertile land for non-agricultural activities is against the basic principle of the Congress party but the government of our own party was adamant for the project for unsaid reasons. But when villagers and youth Congress activists opposed the project, we were wrongly labeled as anti-development forces,” she said.
She was in the town to attend a social function organised by the Bharat Democratic Samiti.
Though the union minister refused to comment on the proposed Haryana budget but she said that it was still not clear that why no development activities were planned for Ambala and her home district Hisar.
“Is the development project means only an IMT on a highly fertile land? The state government could have planned other projects but onus of not doing so lies with the state leadership,” she said.
Selja said that voters in Ambala and Hisar parliamentary constituencies openly allege of region biased under the present Hooda regime.
“There is a discontentment among people that major development projects are concentrated in particular areas, and others parts of the state are ignored. It is a serious issue and state government should come clear on it,” she said.
To a question on another bête noire of Hooda, the Gurgaon MP of Congress, Rao Inderjit Singh holding a “protest rally” at Pataudi against lack of development projects in south Haryana, Selja said that every elected representative had a legitimate right of raising voice of his people and hold rallies.
