Norah Jones brought her piano for performance in India
After sweeping the crowd in Mumbai and Delhi, nine-time Grammy award-winning American singer and pianist Norah Jones will be performing again in the Capital tonight. And, she has bought her own piano for her Indian shows.
She will be playing a Yamaha Upright Spinet Piano, a smaller sibling of the vertical piano which has travelled to India from Singapore, where she performed at the Star Theatre.
“She played to an enthusiastic audience in Mumbai, The Delhi gig is completely different as it’s an indoor, sit-down concert at Siri Fort, a set-up that I think will really lend itself to her music. Her fans will get the chance to hear her live, twice,” says Vijay Nair, the organiser. Jones also takes great care about her stage design wherever in the world she plays. She has flown in large origami cranes (large birds) with her which light up, and change colour with the lighting through the night, lending a dreamy feeling to the entire stage and highlighting her voice. These cranes are a big part of her set design and have been flown in to Delhi, after being part of her first gig in Mumbai. In total, she has flown in nearly 10 tonnes of equipment including guitars, the piano and origami cranes for her first tour of India.
As a welcome surprise to her fans in Delhi, she is performing twice here, as the first show got sold out days after the tickets were up for sales. “I’m very excited to be playing in Delhi, and I’m excited to be adding a second show. I hope that we’ll have a lot of fun at the shows, and that everyone else is as excited as I am”, she had said ahead of her performance here.
