The younger brother of the Delhi gang-rape victim on Wednesday questioned the rationale behind naming a national fund for women’s safety Nirbhaya Fund, after the pseudonym given to his sister by a section of the media.

“When a hospital in Uttar Pradesh and a science museum in Delhi can be named after my sister, why not the fund which has been created solely to prevent what happened to her from happening to anyone else,” the victim’s brother told HT.

This is not the first time the family has made known their stand on the matter. His father, who remained unavailable for comment on Wednesday, earlier voiced the same view.

On December 16, the 23-yr-old paramedic had been raped onboard a moving bus by five adults and one minor.

After her death, a fortnight later in a Singapore hospital, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav visited her ancestral home in Balia and announced that a hospital would be set up there and it would be named after her. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi also announced that a science museum would be built in her name.

“We don’t have a problem with her name being made public…If it doesn’t have any effect on the case why shouldn’t it be revealed?” said her brother.
