The Congress leader alleged that the recent incidents of crime against women had infused terror in the minds of everyone, particularly women.
Recounting some recent incidents, the Youth Congress president said, "Be it the shooting of the ASI father who was protecting his own daughter, the attack on a police officer in Ludhiana or the latest incident where a woman and family were beaten up by cops in Tarn Taran, all incidents point towards the deteriorating law and order situation in the state."Chaudhary demanded that deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal should be immediately relieved of the home portfolio.
The Congress leaders who took part in the protest stressed that it was not enough to enact a legislation to protect the rights of women. They said the need of the hour was to restore the faith of women in the system through strict enforcement of laws.
A Congress delegation also met the victims of the police assault in Usma village of Tarn Taran.
District Congress committee chief Dr Dharamveer and several other Congress leaders, including Harminder Gill, Sukhpal Bhullar, Kulbir Zira,Vikas Soni,Sukhraj Bhaggupur,Kawar Sandhu and Damanjit Singh, also participated in the protest.
