Union railway minister and member of Parliament from Chandigarh Pawan Kumar Bansal has recommended to upgrade two city schools along with the provision of water purifiers in other schools, incurring a total expenditure of Rs. 1.05 crore from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

The schools which would be upgraded are Government Model Senior Secondary School, Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, and Government Model High School, Sector 28-D.

Bansal had been receiving representations to upgrade infrastructure in government schools so as to provide good education and improve hygiene.

The schools will be upgraded as smart schools at a total cost of Rs. 86 lakh. Also, a total of 158 water purifiers will be provided in 50 government schools at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh.

Bansal had also asked the administration to review all government schools and ensure that basic facilities were available in them and if required, more funds shall be provided from MPLAD scheme for schools which lack facilities.
