Newly-appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Partap Bajwa has advocated 'political understanding' with the People's Party of Punjab (PPP)for the 2014 Parliamentary elections.
"More than 60% of the electorate voted against the SAD-BJP, in the state assembly elections, which means
that the SAD-BJP enjoys mandate of only 40% of voters," Bajwa told HT over phone, suggesting that all opposition parties should join hands to oppose the ruling alliance for their anti-people policies.
"PPP-led Sanjha Morcha received nearly 6% votes, of which the Left parties received 3%. I feel that we shoulg go for a political understanding with the Sanjha Morcha", Bajwa said.
"As for as political alliance is concerned, it is the prerogative of the national high command of the party, which will be decided at an appropriate time before the Lok Sabha poll," Bajwa hastened to add.
He added that he would not indulge in verbal slugfest and would prefer to take on SAD-BJP on issues related to people of Punjab.
"The Congress will play an effective and deserving role of opposition party in the state to keep the ruling alliance at its toes on political issued," Bajwa said.
On Amarinder Singh's remarks that he was not consulted before his (Bajwa's) appointment as PPCC chief and if he would have taken into confidence, would have suggested for better name than him (Bajwa), he said: "I don't want to comment on it as everybody has his own style of functioning."
"Be it unemployment allowance to the youth, laptop to students or other welfare schemes for weaker sections of the society, the state government has failed to fulfill any of its promises even after one year of its installation," Bajwa said.
Regarding formation of his new team in the state, Bajwa said that he would be installed as the PPCC Chief on March 23, after which would visit every district of the state before finalising his team.
"The youth will be given its due share and the team will be a nice bledn og experience also. I will run the party as family."
