Mandi Gobindgarh police on Friday arrested a youth for allegedly attempt to rape a 78-year-old woman of village Dadheri of district Fatehgarh Sahib. A case under sections 323, 354, 376 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused Avtar Singh, resident of the same village, on complaint of victim's close relative Balwinder Singh.

According to information received, the incident took place on Thursday when the woman had gone to answer call of nature in fields around 2.30 pm.

Sources said the suspect will be presented in a court on Saturday.
