Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday announced that the government would sponsor the education of the teenaged, but orphaned, grandsons of Sepoy Babu Singh, who received the Vir Chakra for his bravery in the Indo-Pak war of 1947-48. Their parents died last month.
Dharam Singh, 14, and Rajvinder Singh, 17, are presently studying in Sangrur.

"My father Karamjeet Singh died on January 5, while mother Paramjit Kaur died on February 17 due to illness," said Dharam.

Their grandmother Gurdev Kaur had died on February 5, though Babu Singh had expired in 1996.

During the convention of The War Decorated India, Badal announced that the state would bear all the expenses of their education till they would study.
