The ongoing construction work on the Golden Temple Entrance Plaza here will be completed and dedicated to the public by the end of this year.
This was stated by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who along with his wife and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, paid obeisance at the Golden Temple here on Sunday.

After offering prayers for the development of Punjab, communal harmony and welfare of all Punjabis, Sukhbir, while talking to mediapersons, said the Golden Temple would witness the completion of the underground plaza by the end of this year as the work was on in full swing.

He said that within a few months, finishing touches would be given to the project.

Sukhbir said that this unique project would prove a boon for thousands of pilgrims and tourists from across the world as the plaza would have an audio-video information system depicting the history of Sikhs and their rich heritage, besides a number of world-class auditoriums. The plaza is coming up just opposite the Clock Tower entrance to the shrine.

Replying to a query, the deputy CM said that he had already reviewed the status of the construction work and directed the authorities concerned to put the work on fast track so that the project is completed in a stipulated time frame.

Talking about the two master plans being drafted, which have been exclusively designed to make Amritsar a beautiful city, he said that the city would be developed in a well-planned manner. Sukhbir said he was sure that after the implementation of these plans, Amritsar would be one of the country's most beautiful places.

On change of guard in Cong
On being asked about the change in guard in the Punjab Congress, Sukhbir said that this would not at all affect the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in any way. Newly appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Partap Singh Bajwa is not a "new challenge" for neither the SAD nor the SAD-BJP government.

"Our government will continue with its agenda of development, besides following pro-poor, pro-people and pro-Punjab policies," he quipped.

Congratulating Bajwa on his appointment, the deputy CM invited the Congress chief to contribute to the development of the state by playing a constructive role in the initiatives taken by the SAD-BJP government.

Budget session
On the budget session of the assembly commencing on Monday, Sukhbir said the budget of the SAD-BJP government would be pro-people since the ruling combine was committed to the overall development of the state.

On the issue of beating up of a woman by cops in Tarn Taran, the deputy CM, who also holds the home portfolio, said strict and adequate action would be taken on the basis of the magisterial inquiry report. He assured that zero tolerance would be adopted in cases of crime against women.
