Similarly, 3,675 cases of kidnapping of minors were registered in 2012, an increase of over 4.14% compared to the figure of 3,529 recorded in 2011.
Moreover, the police worked out 56.93% cases of abduction reported in 2012.
On the other hand, the number of cases of kidnapping which the police solved during 2012 stood at a little over 69% — with 30% cases remaining unsolved.
On March 23, 2012, one Aashish Garg was abducted for a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh by four of his own classmates. He was later found murdered at southwest Delhi’s Dwarka.
A 19-year-old school dropout, his minor brother and another juvenile were apprehended on May 21 for allegedly abducting and subsequently murdering a taxi driver’s son in the same area.
On June 27, three persons, including a 48-year-old woman, had been arrested in outer Delhi for their alleged involvement in kidnapping a one-year-old with the intention of trafficking him to ‘a needy couple’ residing at an undecided location.
