Though the cyber crime cell will be monitored by DCP (crime) and ACP (crime), both officials will work at their individual level.
The cell will be functional round-the-clock and a new team of police officials has been constituted for the new venture.
For better policing, the police department has bifurcated the cell into two wings.
While the cyber crime cell will deal with cases involving data theft, IP address detection, hacking of websites etc, the crime cell will look after issues such as surveillance of mobile phone of abductors, tracing a mobile phone’s location in murder and kidnapping cases.
Though a cyber crime investigation cell is already functional in the police department, the cyber cell will look after technical investigations.
Commissioner of police Alok Mittal said, “The cell has been given eight Windows 7 computers with 2GB broadband speed. The team has also been given training. The idea to start the new cell was to distribute work between the two wings. The cell will also work on murder, snatching and other heinous cases. The staff will be regularly trained throughout the year and the policemen will be updated on the latest technology.”
