The Zila Parishad (ZP) on Tuesday passed its budget for 2013-14. Rajinder Kumar, ZP chairman, said that the initial balance available with the parishad for the current financial year was Rs. 22 lakh and it was likely to earn Rs. 15.78 crore from different sources this year.

He added that ZP was likely to spend nearly Rs. 15.94 crore during the current financial year. Kumar said the budget would exceed by Rs. 6 lakh. Though budget for various panchayat samitis was passed during the meeting, he said the budget for Jandiala Guru and Verka samitis could not be passed as it was found constitutionally incorrect.

"The budget for the two samitis was put up without passing a resolution approving the same. It had been sent back to the samitis concerned for getting approval," he said. Kumar added that the House decided to use Rs. 12 lakh earned from the prescription fee of ZP-run hospitals to build required infrastructure.
