Chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday hit out at the Opposition for being selective in condemning the killing of people in the state.
"Killing of innocent by anyone is condemnable and being selective is not justifiable," Omar said, while condemning the killing of a youth, Suhail
Ahmed Sofi, by unidentified militants at Sopore on Tuesday night.
Suhail was killed by militants in a masjid at Doabgah, Sopore, in Baramulla district.
"Suhail was chased by militants and he entered a mosque for refuge but the militants shot him inside the mosque and killed the young boy there", the chief minister told the legislative assembly while making a statement about the incident.
Expressing grief over the killing of the young boy, Omar Abdullah did not mince words in expressing his displeasure over the behaviour of a particular faction of members who raised voices vehemently against the similar incidents in which security personnel were involved but keep mum when militants kill innocent people.
"If this kind of killing had been committed by security forces they would have torn their clothes, castigated the country and asked me to give the answer for the bleeding of innocent", the chief minister said and questioned their double standard over such killings.
Omar said innocent killing either by security forces or by militants were equally condemnable and any discrimination or unfair behaviour by certain members in this regard was unjustifiable and amounts to lopsided approach by them aimed at appeasement. "Had this incident taken place at the hands of security forces these members would have pulled the mikes, broken the tables and created a hue and cry in the assembly", he said and ridiculed this type of behaviour.
"Shedding of innocent's blood and killing of people are killing, either committed by security forces or by militants. These should be condemned in unequivocal terms without any discrimination", Omar maintained.
Legislative assembly speaker Mubarak Gul and other members of House shared the sentiments of the chief minister and supported his assertion and condemned the killing of a young boy by militants.
