Organised by Banyan Tree, the event, which is in its eighth edition, will be held on March 22 and 23. The artiste line-up for the first day comprises popular ghatam player Vikku Vinayakram, flautist B Vijayagopal and vocalist Nithyasree Mahadevan. On the second day, violinist T N Krishnan and vocalist Sowmya Iyer will take to the stage.
“This concert has always been very dear to me as it has been instrumental in popularising Carnatic music in cities like Mumbai, Pune and Delhi,” says Vinayakram, who has been associated with this musical act series, which has been spearheading the cause of promoting the classical genre outside of south India. Giving out details about his performance, Vinayakram says, “I will be playing the kanjeera with my grandson, Swaminathan. We will recite a vibrant composition that I’ve created. There will also be some interesting percussion and recitation of Chhandas and Shlokas (the verses of the Vedas) woven within this presentation.”
The concert will be held on March 22 and 23, at the Nehru Centre Auditorium, Worli, from 7 pm onwards. Donor cards are priced at R150 and R250. Call 3297 2584 for more details.
