"This practice is wrong… they get Rs. 1,000 allowance to attend the session every day, which they are not doing," Majithia said.
However, the speaker said the rules were not being violated by such a practice of opposition members.
Atwal also rejected the demand of parliamentary affairs minister Madan Mohan Mittal, who stated that this practice of opposition members was unethical.
"We want you to take action against them (Congress MLAs) for marking their attendance but not attending the session," Mittal said.
The speaker reiterated that he understood the situation, but no rules were being violated by such a practice.
In an effort to handle the tricky situation, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal intervened and paid tributes to the six police personnel who had died in a road accident in Fatehgarh Sahib recently.
Badal said the kin of the deceased cops would get a job on compassionate grounds, besides monetary compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each to the bereaved families.
