Living with the unpleasant odour of the slaughterhouse for long, the downtrodden class wants it shifted to a vacant plot. Stray dogs feeding on the carcasses have bitten many people and the affected community has complainted to the district administration many times.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state secretary Kuldip Singh brought his workers to join the Dalit protest, which forced the police to come over and control the situation. “For long, we have been demanding to shift the slaughterhouse," said Ram Singh, a Dalit from Heero Kalan. "A few days ago, stray dogs around the facility bit a child aged 4. The abattoir's foul odour prevails round the clock. It is inhuman living conditions.”
“There was minor tension indeed near the slaughterhouse," Harwinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Bhikhi, confirmed. The villagers want it shifted to a panchayat land on the other side of the village. The district administration is looking into this issue. For now, it has pacified the Dalits.”
