A constable was murdered by some bootleggers in Rajkot when he tried to raid a house where liquor was stored. This is the second incident of bootleggers targeting policemen in "dry" Gujarat.

Pramod Avadhvasi was killed in the early hours of Thursday. "The assailants threw his body on the highway to make it look like an accident," said a police officer. "Haka Koli, a notorious bootlegger, is the main suspect."

On Monday, a truck carrying liquor tried to run over a policeman in south Gujarat, when he tried to intercept the vehicle.

"We have asked the police to tighten monitoring at interstate borders," said SK Nanda, additional chief secretary (home).
