Sajid Khan (Last directed Housefull 2 in 2012)
The sequel to the 2011 mindless comedy was another one of those big hits that have little to do with a film’s quality. It was after the success of this film that Sajid announced that he was bringing the ’80s back with Himmatwala.

The composers took two songs from the original film’s soundtrack — ‘Naino mein sapna’ and ‘Taki o taki’ — and rerecorded them for this cheesy album, which has received more than one negative review. Sonakshi Sinha has been roped in for a special number titled ‘Thank God it’s Friday’.

Just a few weeks before the film’s release, Sajid decided to tell us all about how Ajay shot with a real tiger for the film, during the shoot of which he apparently even got scratched. Sure he did.

The makers apparently managed to sell the satellite rights of the film for the astronomical figure of over R40 crore, a week before the release date. This just goes to show how desperately our television audiences want to digress to watching cinema we’ve all tried so hard to grow out of.

Our assessment
With each of his releases, Sajid continues to scare those who love progressive cinema further away. The promo of Himmatwala makes you more nauseous than nostalgic. For the final verdict, look out for Anupama Chopra’s review tomorrow in the Watch & Listen page of  Hindustan Times’ Do! section.
