His six-year association with the team as captain will come to an end at the KSLTA Stadium.
Last timeWhen Leander Paes stepped down as captain in August 2008, the national association asked the former Davis Cupper to take charge and his first assignment was a world group playoff tie against Romania. He went on to captain 10 more, the most recent being the tie against South Korea in February.
“I step down after this tie. I am sure they will find a good and suitable replacement and take this team forward. In my six-year stint, I enjoyed good rapport with all the team members including Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. I wish the team well for the future,” said Misra in Bangalore on Sunday.
Sooner the betterIn a recent revolt, India’s top players got together and demanded better playing conditions. With their demands being met, they agreed to play the Indonesia tie.
“It (revolt) was quite unfortunate. Most of their demands have been conceded by the AITA and whatever that remains, can be resolved amicably. The sooner we do it, the better for Indian tennis,” is how Misra put it.
