Nine days before filing a police complaint alleging that their six-year-old son was sexually assaulted after being picked up from his school bus, parents had complained to the Kurla-based school that two of the boy’s classmates were harassing him, school authorities said on
Authorities allege that the parents, however, did not turn up when the school held two meetings – on March 25 and March 28 – to look into the complaint.
On March 19, the parents had submitted a written complaint to the school stating that two of their child’s classmates had been harassing him for three months by “kissing and beating” him.
“The parents of the accused boys came for both meetings, but the parents who complained did not. We tried to get in touch with them through phone calls and sent letters about the meeting,” the school principal said.
The boy’s maternal uncle, a Ghatkopar resident, told HT that the principal was on leave when they first contacted the school.
Following this, the parents were asked to attend a meeting on March 25. “On March 23, we contacted a board member who told us not to meet the principal as they would deal with the matter directly by conducting an inquiry. However, a friend of mine had spoken to the police, so we decided to file a complaint,” he said.
On March 26, the parent filed a complaint against a woman bus attendant and two men for allegedly picking up their son from the bus, taking him to Andheri and sexually assaulting him.
Investigations revealed that the names of the two men were actually the names of the boy’s two classmates.
School authorities said they are surprised that the complaint made to the school and the police are different.
“In the letter submitted to us, the parents didn’t say they suspected their child was sexually assaulted during his school bus trips or that they suspected the woman attendant was an accomplice,” the principal said, adding that the school is not convinced of the allegations.
The school has also raised questions about how the boy could be taken away by two men from the bus when he was the last to be picked up and the first to be dropped.
The parents of the two boys named in the complaint are upset. “Two boys have been maligned and their parents are traumatised,” the principal said.
