Three days later, the woman has not been identified and neither has her head been recovered by the southwest Delhi Police. And as the autopsy is yet to be done, the police have not ruled out the possibility of rape.
AK Ojha, additional CP (southwest) said, “A case of murder and destroying evidence has been registered at the Naraina police station.” Investigators suspect that the victim was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in the sewer to prevent easy discovery. Preliminary investigation hints at the involvement of more than one person.
The details of the woman’s physical description, a police officer said, have been uploaded on the zonal integrated police network (Zipnet). “We are preparing a list of women who have gone missing in NCR and adjoining states in one week. We have also sought help from our counterparts in the adjoining states,” added the officer.
A similar incident was reported in January from southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area where body parts of a woman were found floating in two different drains near Pankha road.
The case comes more than two years after the headless body of Neetu Solanki was discovered dumped in a bag outside New Delhi Railway Station in March 2011. The prime accused and her live-in partner Raju Gehlot continues to elude the police.
Last year, four cases of headless bodies were reported from different areas in Delhi.
