Rani Mukerji to play a cop in YRF's next
Rani Mukerji isn’t new to playing bold roles on screen. Her impactful performances in No One Killed Jessica (2011) and Black (2005) have been lauded by audience and critics alike.
And according to latest news, Rani is all set to play a cop in a newly announced project by Yash Raj Films. Titled Mardaani, the film will be produced by Aditya Chopra and star Rani in the lead.
“This film is a female-oriented project and has one of the boldest, grittiest subjects YRF has ever dealt with,” says a source close to the production house. He adds, “It will be directed by Pradeep Sarkar. He is known for making family-centric and romantic films but in this film, he will be seen working on a new, unexplored theme. This will be his second association with YRF after Laaga Chunari Mein Daag: Journey Of A Woman (2007). This will also be Pradeep’s second film with Rani.”
Although the film’s cast is yet to be finalised, the buzz is that it may not feature a male lead. “From the way things are shaping up, Mardaani might not see a hero. Since it’s a woman-centric film, Rani might carry the film on her shoulders,” says our source. On being contacted, Rafiq Gangjee, vice president, marketing and communications, YRF, confirms the news.
