"We have only received 30% of our salary for the last five months… How are we supposed to survive on this meager amount," a data entry operator working on contractual basis said as they sought a meeting with the joint secretary (administration) Bhagwan Shankar.
Government officials said the Gurgaon-based firm had been told to take a bank over-draft to pay the employees on time. Instead of complying, the firm, however, told employees to pressurize the ministry.
Shankar explained that the budgeted head under which the contractual payments were made was exhausted due to some expenses linked to shifting of home ministry offices.
The home ministry pays the firm Rs. 9,876 monthly for every data entry operator but the operators get about Rs. 8,700 only.
Shankar said the employees would get their current salaries immediately and the arrears, in June after Parliament passes the Union Budget.
