A source said the surgery - called Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery - was performed by ENT consultant Dr Devinder Rai, vice-chairman of the department of ENT of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Doctor Rai was assisted by Dr Munish Munjal, Dr Nitya and Ishwar Singh.“She is stable and she took to the surgery very well. She was operated on endoscopically through her nose. She needs rest now as the nose takes little time to heal and clear,” said Dr Rai.
He added that the surgery took about an hour and the chief minister was given general anesthesia “The sinuses were cleared with the help of endoscope and microdebrider. There is a nasal pack inside and it will take two days to remove it. She will be under observation for a day. Hence, it will be at least three days before we discharge her,” the doctor said.
Dikshit, who was admitted to the hospital late on Thursday evening, had been having symptoms of sinusitis, headaches and blocked nose for the last one year. Of late, she complained of having nasal obstruction, which impeded her day-to-day work, especially public speaking. The chief minister had also undergone an angioplasty in November 2012.
