The Chinese incursion has turned out to be deeper than previously thought. The government on Friday informed a Parliamentary panel that a platoon of Chinese soldiers had plonked themselves 19 km inside the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control in the Ladakh sector. The depth of the incursion was until now believed to be 10 to 15 km.

Defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma told the House panel on defence that India had deployed forces to keep an eye on the disputed border after intruding soldiers pitched tents on April 15.
