In Chandigarh, members of the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Samoh Sikh Gurudwara Committee and other Sikh bodies carried out a procession in protest against the acquittal.
“The Sikhs have always made supreme sacrifices for the nation and also played a major role in the freedom struggle, but when it comes to giving them justice the line of ‘lack of evidence’ is taken and those responsible for the riots are let off,” said SAD activist NS Minhas.
In Amritsar too, members of the All India Sikh Student Federation held protests.
Hundreds of members of the Sikh community blocked the Jammu-Pathankot national highway on Wednesday.
The Dogra Front and the Shiv Sena accused the UPA government of “treachery and injustice” to the Sikh community.
Dogra Front president Ashok Gupta alleged that various commissions and committees that probed the 1984 riots were influenced by Congress leaders and its workers who had incited and helped mobs in attacking Sikhs.
