“We have requested the protestors to shift their protest venue to Jantar Mantar,” said SBS Tyagi, DCP, New Delhi. He also said that a decision to shut down Metro stations in central Delhi was yet to be taken.
The protesters, however, are unlikely to shift the venue. “On Thursday, we will burn the effigy of Sonia Gandhi in front of her house. She is the main culprit behind the anti-Sikh riots in which thousands were killed,” said RP Singh, a protester.
Babu Singh Dukhiya, president of the National 1984 Victim Justice and Welfare Society, said that protests will continue till Sajjan Singh is punished. “This is a movement for justice which does not need any leadership. Delhi’s Sikhs are joining the movement and soon it would become a national movement,” he said.
Following Thursday’s protest, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee will have a nationwide meeting to decide on the future course of action, said a SAD leader.
The BJP is also planning a protest rally on Saturday at Talkatora Stadium.
