Phillaur said of the 38 Pakistani prisoners in the Amritsar central jail, 28 who had already completed their terms had been lodged in a transit camp within the jail.
Terming the frequent deaths of prisoners and recent incidents of violence on the jail premises as unfortunate, he said the state government was taking corrective measures.

Taking a serious note of substandard adulterated medicines being used in jails, the minister said the health department had also been asked to ensure adequate and good quantity medicines required for prisoners in all jails of Punjab.
