Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday described the policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) as wrong and said these would lead to the Congress' defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
He also held the UPA's policies responsible for high inflation and unemployment in the country.

Badal was speaking to mediapersons at Phase 9 in SAS Nagar, where he had come to condole the death of Harminder Singh Harji, an SAD leader from Fatehgarh Sahib, who had died a month ago.

Earlier, the family members of Harji, who had supported Congress in the assembly elections, joined the SAD on Sunday in the chief minister's presence.

Welcoming them in the party fold, Badal said Congress leaders were making a beeline for the SAD as they had been disheartened by the policies of the Congress.

Making a scathing attack on the Congress, Badal accused ministers of the party of corruption.

“Even today, internal and external security of the country is a matter of great concern,” he said, and described the attitude of the Congress as “anti-Punjab and anti-people”.

Speaking on the occasion, SAD leader professor Prem Singh Chandumajra said family members of Harji had switched to the SAD because of the party's policies, which he termed as pro-people.
