Chidambaram turns TV reporter, 'grills' BJP’s Jaswant Singh
Finance minister P Chidambaram turned into a journalist as senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh came out from the Parliament building after it was adjourned sine die and sought his reaction on the Congress victory in Karnataka.
The senior Cabinet minister took a mike from a television reporter and asked Singh, "Don’t you credit Congress with victory (in Karnataka)?" Singh smiled and did not react.
"He is a gentleman," Chidambaram said, while returning the mike to the reporter.
As it turned out to be an impromptu press briefing with leaders from Congress and BJP, Chidamabram said the Karnataka election result was a political message to all parties.
"The people watch very closely. Whoever forms the government must deliver," the finance minister said, in reply to a question whether the Karnataka Assembly poll result is a larger message to the UPA government as the people of Karnataka voted out BJP on the issue of corruption.
Singh agreed with Chidambaram with a gentle smile and said "People vote for governance and if it stops, people will vote you out.”
