The police gave no reason for the attack on Mir who used to lead prayers in a local mosque a few months back. Currently, locals said, he worked as a labourer.
The police official said the victim was survived by his wife, three small children, including two daughters, and aged parents.
Earlier during the day, district's Rajpora market was rattled by a burst of bullets after suspected militants shot a police officer.
Two motorcycle-borne militants, whom Hizbul Mujahideen outfit reportedly claimed to be its men, shot Farooq Ahmad Sheikh (50), an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police, multiple times from point-blank range.
The officer was a resident of Batamaloo in Srinagar and was posted at the District Police Lines, Pulwama.
Sheikh is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons.
Friday's successive killings come weeks after four policemen were killed by Hizb in northern town of Sopore.
