The police on Saturday booked two men for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl of Rauwala village under Kot Ise Khan police station in this district. SHO Jasvir Singh said the mother of the victim complained to the SSP that one Joginder Singh and his close relative of Rauwal village entered their house and raped her daughter on Friday evening.

The victim, in her statement to the police, said, "My mother had gone to work and I was alone home. Joginder and Swaran came to my house and raped me. When I tried to put up a fight, they put a cloth into my mouth."

She claimed that when her mother returned home, both fled from the house.

According to the police, Joginder and Swaran were relatives of the victim and often visited her house.

The SHO said that after receiving the complaint, the police arrived at the spot and the victim was sent to the civil hospital for medical examination. "We are waiting for the medical report. A case has been registered against Joginder and Swaran," he added.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Inderjit Singh Zira reached the civil hospital and demanded that the accused be arrested soon. "I have informed state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa and he assured me that he would visit the victim's house and in case the police showed negligence, the Congress workers would start an agitation," said Zira.

SSP Surjit Singh Grewal said two special police teams under the supervision of an SP-level officer had been constituted to arrest the accused. "I hope we will nab the culprits in the next few hours," he added.
