Those contesting from Gurgaon include Ajay Chaudhary, Jagroop Singh, Paramtab Mudgil, JK Maheshwari, Ramavtar Gupta, Mahendra Singh Chouhan, Rakesh Kumar and Pravesh Yadav.
While Yadav is the only one who has been a member of the bar council, Maheswari was the chairman of the apex lawyers’ body at the state level in 1997.
“As a member, we will stand a better chance to look into the grievances of the Gurgaon bar. However, we also have to carry out our pan-state responsibilities effectively,” said Maheswari. The bar council looks into complaints against lawyers.
Another contestant, Choudhary, said more Gurgaon bar association members in the council will help address issues of faced by lawyers in south Haryana. A total of 58,600 registered lawyers will vote in the bar council elections, which will be contested by 98 lawyers from Haryana, Punjab and the union territory of Chandigarh.
