Charity: a new reason to party
In June, iconic city venue Hawaiian Shack will host the India leg of a party as part of a global charitable initiative. Hawaiian Shack will be one of the 360 clubs in the world to host a grand party as part of a global charitable initiative on June 27. In the last edition of this concept called The Global Party, in 2011, the bash was held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Colaba.
“This is one of the largest charitable events which takes place in 120 cities across the world. They (organisers) chose 360 venues and this year (since the theme has been inspired by 360 degrees) they are expecting 3,60,000 guests,” explains Sheen Lalwani, owner, Hawaiian Shack. “These parties happen simultaneously over three days. It will take place at our Juhu branch on June 27.”
The intention is simple — to raise funds for a charity that each venue can pick. In this case, Lalwani has chosen to donate the proceeds to Give India, an NGO that works for the betterment of disabled children. “Various guests or VIPs will be sent invites for this event. They will, in turn, have to confirm their presence online, where they can choose to make a payment towards the cause,” she adds. "
According to a statement sent out by The Global Party, the “suggested donation is based on what they (the VIP guests) believe one hour of their time is worth”. At the Hawaiian Shack, “the guests will include celebrities and business people,” says Lalwani.
Although this isn’t an invite-only event, the entry to this gig is rather exorbitantly priced. Those interested in attending one of these dos have to make a charitable donation worth £500 (approximately Rs.41,900) or more towards The Global Charity Trust. In return, they will receive a couple invite to a party.
