Delhi BJP MLAs led by Vijay Kumar Malhotra, leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly, have asked President Pranab Mukherjee to dismiss chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

The MLAs met the President on Sunday and submitted a memorandum, requesting him to direct the chief minister to resign or dismiss her government in view of the indictment by Delhi Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sareen. Malhotra said after large-scale campaigns and protests across the country, the Prime Minister and ministers of his cabinet said an effective and strong Lokpal Bill would be brought and that Lokayuktas would be strengthened and their decisions implemented without fear or favour.

Malhotra said the Lokayukta of Delhi had indicted the CM along with other ministers in serious matters earlier and asked for action against them. However, the Delhi Lokayukta has a limited mandate and can only send a recommendation to the President.
