Flamengo says it has hired former Brazil coach Mano Menezes. The club made the announcement on Thursday, saying that Menezes will sign a contract until the end of 2014. Menezes was fired from the national team last year. He led Brazil to decent results but the Brazilian football federation said it didn't like his methods.

Menezes said on his Twitter page that he was "proud" to be coaching Flamengo, adding it was a "great new job."

Flamengo, Brazil's most popular club, had been without a coach since firing former Brazil right back Jorginho earlier this month following a series of poor results in the Brazilian league.

Financial details of Menezes' contract were not disclosed.
