Barring Bahujan Samaj Party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra and a few former ministers, most of the BSP leaders were conspicuous by their absence. So, was former chief minister Mayawati, in whose tenure Singh became the ‘most powerful bureaucrat’ in the state.
Ironically, it was the Akhilesh Yadav government which provided a state plane to bring Singh’s body from New Delhi to Lucknow.
Lokayukta NK Mehrotra, National Commission for Scheduled Caste chairman PL Punia and senior officers who had worked with Singh also turned up in large number at Singh’s Gomti Nagar residence to pay their last respect.Former chief secretary Anoop Mishra, Atul Kumar Gupta, Netram, Kunwar Fateh Bahadur, SP Goel, Shailesh Krishna, former DGP Vikram Singh were also among those present there.
Secretary to chief minister Anita Singh, accompanied by her husband, IG Lucknow, Subhash Chandra, also reached Singh’s residence to pay their last respects. DG Civil Defence Brij Lal, senior IAS officer Rajiv Agarwal and some other officers were among those who reached Bhaisakund before the last rites were performed.
