Advocate Ezaj Naqvi alleged that Raj had referred to the high court ruling as “partisan”, and has filed a contempt petition in court.
“The remark scandalises the HC and tends to lower its authority and dignity,” Naqvi’s contempt petition states. “The remark casts unwarranted aspersion of partiality against the high court.” The lawyer sought criminal action against Raj under the Contempt of Courts Act.
A division bench of justice PV Hardas and justice Mridula Bhatkar on Monday issued a notice to Raj and granted him four weeks to file his reply.
The bench also granted four weeks to the Union Law and Judiciary and the Information and Broadcasting ministries to file their respective replies in four weeks, after which it will come up for hearing.
