Rahul said all sensitive points along the Ghaggar have been strengthened by spending R1crore.“The reasons that led to floods in 2010 have been taken into account before preparing a blueprint to control floods in the district. All weak points have been repaired and strengthened on priority,” he said.
In view of the possibility of floods during the monsoon season, Rahul said besides arranging boats and other required infrastructure to evacuate people, flood-prone area has been divided into five sectors and arrangements for proper medical units and necessary medicines have already been made.
He said pump sets to clear rain water and to arrangements to provide drinking water have been made in advance and temporary evacuation centres have been earmarked to move flood-affected people in case such a situation arises.
Seven round-the-clock flood control rooms have been set up with the main flood control room at Khanauri and 16 nodal officers from different departments have been appointed. “Night surveillance is being ensured near drains and a list of swimmers has been prepared so that they could be contacted well in time,” he said.
