Your radio taxi ride has just turned costlier.
You will have to pay Rs. 23 per kilometre for a ride in an air-conditioned radio taxi while the economy radio cabs will now charge Rs. 12.50 per kilometre. Currently, AC radio taxis charge Rs. 20 per km while economy taxis charge Rs. 10 per km.
The transport department finalised the new rates on Wednesday. The revised fares will come into effect after the department notifies it in a day or two.

According to senior transport department officials, radio taxi fare revision was on the cards ever since the auto-rickshaw fare was revised in May this year.
“The radio taxi operators had been demanding a revision in their fares. We could not do it when auto-rickshaw fare was revised but we have done it now,” a senior transport department official said.
Radio taxi is a popular mode of transport in Delhi. There are about 5,000 AC radio cabs and 3,800 economy radio taxis plying in the Capital.
Available on demand and fitted with a global positioning system, radio cabs are considered a safe transport for women and those who travel late night.

Approximately two lakh people travel by radio taxis in Delhi every day.
