Delhi University’s (DU) application process over, a number of students now are trying other options as well, one of them being Ambedkar University.
Ambedkar University, situated at Kashmere Gate, offers seven undergraduate programmes with plenty of options to choose
Students can exit the undergraduate programme with a three-year BA honours with a major in one subject or can study further and obtain a four year dual-degree with a major in two subjects.
For some aspirants — like Arsh Goel, a commerce student, who wants to pursue the undergraduate course in Economics or Psychology at DU — Ambedkar University is a boon. With the kind of percentage Goel has managed to secure, an admission in DU for him is not guaranteed.
“I have heard good things about the faculty of Ambedkar University. I am hoping to get admission in the varsity hence,” Goel said.
Akash Chawla from Rohini, who has scored 77% aggregate in his class 12 examination, too is optimistic about his admission at Ambedkar.
“I would prefer this university over any private college because a government university always has a higher value in the outer world,” he said.
The University also supports students from the economically weaker sections of the society.
“We have various outreach programmes, options for fee waivers and welfare funds for students who get admission in the university but are unable to pay their fees due to financial problems. Our university is very student centric,” said Kuriakose Mamkoottam, Dean, Student Services.
Any student with a minimum of 50% of marks in his/her class 12 is eligible to apply.
Relaxation of 5% is allowed to students belonging to the SC, ST, OBC and physically disabled categories. Around 85% of the seats are reserved for the students from the National Capital Territory (NCT).
There are 245 seats overall with 35 seats for every undergraduate programme offered by the university.
Till now, the university has received around 1,728 applications for its undergraduate programmes.
The last date of sale and submission of the application forms is June 22.
The first cut off list will be announced on July 1.
