The 2013 Nano tries to appeal to the urban youth.
Tata has made a considerable amount of changes to the new Nano. The car we tested comes with chrome strips at the front and the rear, the updated bumper gets additional perforations to keep the engine cool and its being offered in two new
colours as well – royal gold and dazzle blue.
The dazzle blue gets an optional all-black interior on the LX variant, giving it that much sportier look.
Until now, the Nano has been marketed as a ‘common man’s car’. This approach, however, hasn’t really worked well for Tata and the Nano, once past the initial phase, never quite managed to fulfil its potential as a mass market car.
However, one look at the updated Nano and it is quite clear that Tata Motors is repositioning the Nano as a car for the urban youth while also trying to appeal to the masses. The LX and CX versions now get dual glove boxes and there is the all new audio system on the LX that supports USB, aux and Bluetooth streaming. The car gets four speakers – two on the dash and two at the rear.
The ergonomics have been improved, with the illuminated power window switches now placed behind the gear lever and a 12V socket being added ahead of the shift stick. The hazard warning lights switch also finds a place on the centre console, making access easier.
The car gets a slightly larger steering wheel, which addresses the issue of the heavy steering at lower speeds somewhat. Also, the clutch feels incredibly light, further improving driving comfort. Ride quality is pretty much similar to the previous car which isn’t too bad, but, at times, slightly choppy.
Tata Motors hasn’t yet revealed the pricing of the 2013 Nano but we expect it to cost a little more than the car it replaces.
