Shah’s parents, Tanvir and Kulsum, had stayed back in London with her younger siblings after she disappeared. Despite repeated attempts, they could not be contacted on Thursday.
“She is safe. From the preliminary report, it seems that she travelled to Scotland,” said an officer from the press bureau of the Metropolitan Police Services (MPS), London, adding that Shah was not abducted or kidnapped.
Michelle Elkins, news branch, directorate of media and communication, MPS, told HT in an email reply that investigating officers from MPS are talking to the police in Scotland.
A student of Sathaye College in Vile Parle, Shah disappeared around 2pm while she was shopping with her family.
The MPS then contacted the principal of Sathaye College, seeking more information about the teenager.
College officials had emailed documents, including electricity bill and identity proofs to the London Police. A bright student, Shah had not appeared for her Class 11 science exam and had, hence, failed.
