In a bid to resolve the ongoing lease tussle with Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC), the UT administration has offered to reduce the lease amount by Rs. 36 lakh, making it to Rs. 1.25 crore annually.
In November last year, the administration had fixed Rs. 1.61 crore per annum as lease amount, which had been the bone of contention between both parties. Besides that, the club was asked to pay Rs. 9.27 crore, including interest, as rent for a period from March 16, 2008 to March 15, 2013.

The administration has also offered to give a period of one-year to the club management to clear the outstanding dues of Rs. 9.27 crore.

According to senior officials, the administration will submit an affidavit about offers made to the club in the Punjab and Haryana high court to settle the dispute.

The administration has made the move following directions from the ministry of home affairs (MHA) to resolve the issue. Recently, the MHA had asked the administration to submit a report on the progress made in the ongoing tussle with the club, which spreads over an area of around 132 acres having 1,800 members.

According to sources, the club management is not ready to accept the offer made by the administration. The earlier lease was for 20 years (1988 to 2008) and the annual lease amount was Rs. 1 lakh. The club management had requested the administration to extend its lease either in terms of the draft lease proposed by the administration on December 2, 2009 (Rs 10 lakh per year), or on similar terms to that of the Delhi Golf Club (Rs 6 lakh annually).

After the lease amount was enhanced last year, the club management moved the high court challenging it. The high court had appointed justice Kuldip Singh, a former judge of the Supreme Court, as a mediator to resolve the lease row.
 
 
R10 lakh monthly rent likely for Chandigarh Club

The authorities are in the process of finalising lease amount for the Chandigarh Club.
According to sources, a monthly rent of Rs. 10 lakh from the present Rs. 1.51 lakh has been accessed by the engineering department. The club, which has an open area of 8.5 acres and covered area of over 1,200 square yards, was originally a community centre, but over the years a large building and swimming pool has come up without required permissions.
