It was panic and mayhem at the office of the Dean of Students' Welfare (DSW) of Delhi University on the first day of admission on Thursday, as a number of applicants - whose forms apparently had gone missing from the college database - thronged the office to know their fates and find out what
happened to their forms.
A number of applicants were sent back by some colleges, despite meeting the cut-off, as the colleges could not find the application information of the aspirants in their database sent by the university.
"I had gone to Kirori Mal College to take admission in Chemistry but was informed that my application had not reached the colleges. I ran to the office of the DSW only to be told that we will have to get the photocopy of the forms verified before seeking admission," said Kanika Aggarwal, who was asked to wait for two hours to re-submit a verified copy of her admission form.
Close to 50 candidates turned up at the DSW office with the same problem on Thursday.
The harrowing experience extended to south campus colleges as well, with a number of applicants at Lady Shri Ram College finding out that their names did not figure on the list, despite having cleared the cut-off. However, the students did not have much to panic about, as the college made the process smoother, despite the glitch.
"There were a number of cases in psychological science and political science where students who had made the cut-off did not figure on the list. We just asked them to show their DU registration slip and if they had cleared the cut-off, we provided them admission," said Kanika Khandelwal, media coordinator, Lady Shri Ram College.
University officials, despite admitting to having been notified by several colleges of the error, ruled out the chances of forms being misplaced.
"We are trying to verify what went wrong and it will be rectified soon. We have also asked colleges to verify the forms through a link present on our website. There is no question of denying a student admission because of this," said JM Khurana, dean, students' welfare, DU.
