“Bitumen or asphalt get damaged when they come in contact with water, hence potholes form during the rains,”said SM Ramchandani, joint managing director, MSRDC, adding that they were filling the potholes to avoid inconvenience to motorists.
MSRDC managing director Bipin Shrimali was not available for comment.
Expert blamed untimely action by authorities for bad condition of roads. “Repairs should be carried out before May 10 so there is enough time for compaction of bitumen or asphalt.
However, authorities carry out work till monsoon sets in,” said Nandkumar Salvi, a road expert.
